Magnesium Oxide (MgO), also known as magnesia, is a white, alkaline, hygroscopic solid mineral obtained from the calcination of magnesium carbonate or magnesium hydroxide, widely used for its refractory, nutritional, and medicinal properties; it serves as a raw material in steel, cement, and glass industries due to its high melting point, is incorporated in fertilizers and animal feed as a magnesium supplement, and is used pharmaceutically as an antacid and laxative, while also finding applications in environmental protection (flue gas treatment), construction materials, and rubber and plastics as a stabilizer and filler.
