Fortified Rice Kernels

purpose

Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK) are artificially manufactured rice-like grains produced using broken rice flour blended with a premix of essential micronutrients such as iron, folic acid, vitamin B12, and sometimes zinc and other vitamins; these kernels are designed to look, feel, and cook like natural rice and are blended with regular rice in a fixed ratio (commonly 1:100) to provide a safe, effective, and affordable means of combating malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies, especially iron-deficiency anemia, on a large scale without altering the taste, texture, or appearance of the staple food.

• Used for blending with regular rice to produce fortified rice for human consumption.
• Helps in addressing micronutrient deficiencies such as Iron, Folic Acid, and Vitamin B12.
• Used in government-supported nutrition and food fortification programs.
• Suitable for inclusion in public distribution systems, mid-day meal schemes, and welfare initiatives.
• Can be used in both parboiled and raw rice processing plants.

• Nutrient-enriched and visually identical to natural rice grains.
• Retains nutritional value even after washing and cooking.
• Heat-stable and moisture-resistant formulation ensuring long shelf life.
• Complies with FSSAI and global food fortification guidelines.
